Robert Scroope was a son of Henry J. Scroope. He was born on the 18th October, 1917 in Montreal, Canada. His family later moved to Elmherst, in the city borough of Queens, New York, where he grew up.
He was a pilot who flew rescue missions in the Pacific for the United States Navy during World War II.
He married Mary Wolinski on the 26th of May, 1946. The couple soon moved to Uniondale, New York.
They had three children:

- Robert Thomas Scroope - married Heather Brent
- Kerri Meghan Scroope
- Michael Sean Scroope
- Marilyn Scroope Mahoney - married Daniel Mahoney, had three children:
- Melissa Mary Mahoney - married Kevin Appnel
- Erin Elizabeth Mahoney
- Daniel Mahoney
- Thomas F. Scroope - married Maureen Connelly had two children:
- Jenna Anne Scroope
- Alyssa Scroope

Loving grandfather of Kristin Scroope and her husband Timothy Flynn, Robert T., Kerri, Michael Scroope, Jenna and Alyssa Scroope and Melissa, Erin and Daniel Mahoney. Reposing at the Michael J. Grant Funeral Homes, Inc., 571 Suffolk Avenue, Brentwood, N.Y. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 9:45am at St. Anne's R.C. Church, Brentwood, N.Y. Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 2-4 and 7-9:30pm.
