Geoffrey Le Scrope - 9th Lord Scrope of MashamGeoffrey Le Scrope was born in 1467 in Upsall, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Thomas, 5th Lord Scrope of Masham, and brother to Thomas, 6th Lord Scrope of Masham and Henry, 7th Lord Scrope of Masham. He was successor to his brother Ralph, 8th Lord Scrope of Masham. Geoffrey was a Carthusian monk, and was consequently never summoned to parliament. He died unmarried in 1517. With him terminated the male line of the Scropes of Masham and Upsall. The family estates were divided among his three sisters, and the title fell into abeyance. In the partition of the family estates, Mashamshire fell to the share of his sister Margaret, wife of Sir Christopher Danby, Knight, of Farnley and Thorp Perrow, and who, in right of his wife, became Lord of Mashamshire. |
